I'll take "Trains" for $500, Alex!

Trains....

The toots and whistles ring into my ears well into the night. Their faces and names haunt my dreams. Today Alfie is his favorite, yesterday it was Murdoch and Neville. Before that, George and Gordon were the favored team. The main ones, like Thomas, Percy and Emily, are still in the running most days.

We have about 10 feet or so of track now, which scatters about in the middle of the living room with 10 car pile-ups on every corner. His latest game is to give them a running start, one by one, and watch the resulting wreckage with glee. It's like a bad Keanu Reeves movie.

But enough about trains - I hear this phase should pass within 3 or 4 years. If you see me with one foot in the looney bin by that time, you'll know why. I'll have disposed of much valuable information in my brain to make room for learning all of their names.

And Brent had his first great adventure into the world without his Mommy to guide him. Last week was a mess, with ice storms, a loss of electricity for 2 days, and a babysitter in the hospital. So, I met my Dad halfway between our houses on Wednesday and shipped him off until the weekend. I think he was a little homesick, but I know he had a great time. I probably missed him more than he did me. Those last 30 minutes going down to get him couldn't have gone any slower if they tried. I just wanted to see his smile and hold him until he complained. And then the wait was over, and I heard the happy cries of "Mommeeeeee" before I even got to the door. Whew! The world was right again....
