Makes Scents

Yesterday we brought the boys out to "help" in the garden. Alex was helping me weed (at least until a large handful of mud and weeds were thrown directly into my forehead), and Brent was busy picking 'daisylions' for me to wear in my hair.

Afterwards, Brent and I were walking around looking at the different flowers. He would reluctantly hold his nose 8 inches from the flowers when I asked him to see what they smelled like, as if some foreign insect would somehow jump out of hiding, and I do understand that particular thought process. We sampled the lilacs (smells like grapes, mommy!!), and the dogwood blooms (oooooh! They smell like popcorn! - [???]).

Finally he went to some of the azaleas that were nearby. "Oh wow! These smell like love! They must be for you mommy...". Then he looked at me, smiling from ear to ear, to watch me melt as he knew I would.

Even the most perfect spring day can't compare to that.

Epiphany

On the trip up to visit his dad this week, we talked about road signs and traffic signals, and learned how to read certain words, like EXIT or SPEED LIMIT. (Note: if you're going to teach your 4 year old how to read what the speed limit signs say, and also how to tell how fast the car is going, be also prepared sometimes to drive for 2 hours while someone is asking you every 5 minutes why you're going SIX FIVE when the signs say to go FIVE FIVE)

So somewhere along the way, Brent saw a sign on the side of the road he didn't recognize. I asked him if he knew what it said.

"Oh no! It says that aliens are going to come down and destroy the earth!!!"

Then, after thinking about that a minute, he says calmly: "Hmmmm. That's kinda poopy."

The Dance

I know this is horrible video because of the low lighting, but I had to capture the way Brent dances, with his arms by his sides to his elbows, and flapping the rest around like a frantic bird.
